Army of the Heart

My heart is in a thousand pieces, smoldering like remnants from some supernova explosion, an explosion from years ago. Each glowing piece seems to have it’s own sentience, part grizzled veteran, part newborn. And they are all waking from a deep slumber, groggy, grouchy, hungry and smiling.  What was once a beating heart is now an army.
